If you had to switch your first name, what name would you choose and why?
My legal first name is Melissa. When I was born my parents had issues agreeing on a first name. They both agreed quite quickly on giving me the middle name Ann after my Aunt Melba (her middle name was also Ann) who passed away in a bad car accident on October 31, 1975 at the age of 21.
My father originally wanted to name me Jennifer and call me Jenny/Genny for short after his Aunt Genevieve (Genny) who passed away rather young from heart problems. My mother originally wanted to name me Heather Dawn (instead of using Ann as the middle name) or Shawna. Neither of them liked the other one's ideas for names so, they finally found a name they could agree on Melissa Ann after my Aunt Melba Ann. See what they did there? I thought it was actually kinda cool. :)
So, if I had to choose a different first name I'd choose Gennifer and go by Genny. Then I could have the namesake of two of my Aunts.
omg, i'm right with ya. So much ponder on names lately. I'm named after a very old relative on my dad's side, first & middle. Maybz the first lady to come from Ireland to US. I think my nickname came about cuz I wasn't able to say Malinda as a baby. The only other thing I know of this was that the other name for me was Killian. I quite like the idea of having "kill" in my name. That led to me to use Melee, which was a video game go to of mine for years. Malindy is so much to say & at times...a lot of them...i don't feel hyper and cute enough to embody that. Your new twitter handle is adorbz & memorable. No one really uses Malindy & folks always say Malinda is a deadly serious name unbefitting of my personality. I srsly think you pull off Genny quite well. I always think of you as Aerie tho <3
ReplyDeleteI think it's special to be named after our ancestors. When I have kids I'm naming them names after my ancestors. I wanna name my first born daughter Gwenivere (it reminds me of my Aunt Genny's first name Genevieve) Ann (after my middle name and my Aunt Melba's) Elizabeth (after my great grandma Cora Elizabeth). If I were to ever have a second daughter I'd name her first name Corynne (after my great grandma Cora). I have no idea what I'd name a boy....hmmm...there's some good names to chose from in my ancestry, like: Benjamin, James, Alexandre, or Paul. I like Alexandre and call him Xandre. That would be so cool.
DeleteI think Malinda, Malindy, and Killian are beautiful names! I always wondered where you came up with the name Melee. That's pretty cool. Awe, thanks for the compliment on my new twitter handle. :D Originally I came up with the name when I was thinking up names for pandas when Mists of Pandaria was about to come out on World of Warcraft, but I wound up naming my Pandarin Monk "Pandaliciouz", lol. I used to get mistaken for a Genny all the time when I used to hang out at South County Mall when I was a teenager. People would swear up and down that it was my name. Lol. Thank yaz! Aerie is the name I feel actually fits the me on the inside better than anything. So, I'm glad. :)
